Dr. Francis Lau passed his medical undergraduate, MBChB, at Aberdeen University, Scotland in 1994, and had his training in anaesthesiology at Aberdeen Royal Hospitals from 1995 till 1999. He was conferred as a fellow in anaesthesia in 1998 by the Royal College of Anaesthetist at London. He has been working as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology at Sarawak General Hospital from 1999 prior to his current appointment.

Dr. Chen Chee Kean

Dr. Chen Chee Kean is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist with specialist training in Interventional Pain Management. He received his medical degree from University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2002 and completed Anaesthesiology residency and specialist training at University Science Malaysia (USM) in 2010. Subsequently, Dr. Chen became a member of Academy of Medicine Malaysia in 2013.

Dr. Chen is one of the few clinicians in Malaysia who was awarded Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practise (FIPP) from World Institute of Pain, the USA in 2012 after completed training and passed in Interventional Pain Practise Examination. His keen interest is in treating chronic neck pain, low back pain, face pain, postoperative pain and neuropathic pain with minimally invasive radiofrequency technique. Minimally invasive interventional pain treatment is the latest therapy for chronic pain conditions, which reduces unwanted side-effects of long-term pain medications.

During his tenure at Sarawak General Hospital, Dr. Chen practiced clinical anaesthesiologist for various types of surgery, provided care for ICU patients and managed chronic pain patients in Pain Clinic. Dr. Chen has also been actively involved in providing training in the field of interventional pain management and regional anesthesia. He has been invited as speaker and facilitator to various training events in this region. Besides being an active journal reviewer, Dr. Chen has authored and published more than twenty scientific papers and abstracts in international peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Soon Su Yang graduated from University of Nottingham, UK in 1992. After completing his housemanship, he worked as a Senior House Officer in general medicine and obtained his MRCP (UK) in 1997. Dr. Mahadhir graduated as a Medical Doctor from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1994.  He began his career as a Houseman prior to his appointment as Medical Officer at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).  He passed his International Council of Ophthalmology Exam in 1998 and then obtained the Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2003.  At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), he started the Department of Ophthalmology and became its first Head of Department. At the same time, he is also attached to the Department of Ophthalmology at the SGH. He has 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and his interests are in Glaucoma, new modalities in Pterygium Surgery and Cataract Surgery. He was inducted into the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia in 2006. He is registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and the National Specialist Registry.

He is a member of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and was a committee member of the MMA Sarawak Branch. He is the Honorary Secretary of the Kenyalang Medical Foundation and also a member of The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology, the South East Asian Glaucoma Interest Group (SEAGIG), the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

After completing his housemanship at Sarawak General Hospital, he served as Medical Officer in Lau King Howe Hospital, Sibu and Saratok District Hospital. Upon his return from his district posting, he served as Registrar at the Paediatric Department, Sarawak General Hospital for one year before leaving for his clinical attachment at Royal Sick Children, Edinburgh, Scotland. While he was there, he obtained his postgraduate qualification, MRCP (UK.) in Paediatric in March 1993.

He returns to Sarawak in April 1993. Upon his return, he serves as a Clinical Specialist at the Paediatric Department, Sarawak General Hospital and later, as Head of Paediatric Department at Sarawak General Hospital. In August 1995, he left for private practice; he was the Resident Consultant Paediatrician at Normah Medical Specialist Centre till June 2007. He joined Kuching Specialist Hospital in July 2007. She has published a paper for the Academy of Medicine Congress 1982 (co-authored with YEO PBB) on the topic ‘Grave’s Disease’ and Malaysian Medical Journal in March 1991 on the topic of ‘Rett Syndrome’. Her Special interest is in Ambulatory Pediatrics, especially Pediatric Respiratory Problems & Pediatric Nutrition.

In year 2013, she was privileged with the 1st Young Investigator Award from Nestle Nutrition Institute of Research in Premature Feeding.

He has served as a consultant urologist in Sarawak General Hospital since 2013. While having a special interest in surgery for urethral strictures, he is also comfortable in other urology subspecialties such as uro-oncology, endo-urology, laparoscopy and andrology. He is currently a member of the MUA and SIU as well as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
