At Accident & Emergency (A&E), we are specialized in managing all critically ill and emergency cases. A&E provides outpatient treatment for all walk-in patient who requires urgent care. Haemodialysis

What is haemodialysis?
Haemodialysis, or HD as it often abbreviated, is a treatment that removes the waste products and the excess fluid that accumulate in your blood and body tissues as a result of kidney failure.  Large quantities can be removed relatively quickly during an HD treatment.  Because of this, haemodialysis is used as an intermittent therapy and the most common way to treat the patient is 3 times a week, for 4 hours each session.

How does haemodialysis work?
The cleaning of the blood takes place outside the body via an “artificial kidney”, also called a dialyzer.  Blood is pumped via a plastic line to the dialyzer and returned to the body.  The process was monitored and controlled by a dialysis machine.
For haemodialysis treatment to take place, it need to have an access to the blood stream.  This can be achieved by creating a fistula which was done surgically by making a connection between an artery and vein.  If necessary or in an emergency case, temporary access can be created by inserting a catheter into a deep lying vein, for example at the groin or neck. Sometimes, this catheter can be serve as a permanent access point.

How often is hemodialysis done?
Hemodialysis is generally done three times a week for 4 hours per session. Your doctor will prescribe how long your treatments will be, but most common is 4 hours. Talk to your doctor about how long you should be on hemodialysis. Healthy kidneys work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and dialysis must do the job in only 12 or so hours a week.

Intensive Care Unit

KPJ Kuching Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides complex 24 hours medical and nursing care for patients requiring a higher level of care. Patients are admitted to ICU either electively after a planned major operation or as a result of an emergency that may arise during hospital admission. KPJ Kuching ICU ward has 3 beds and takes approximately 192 admissions per year.

The surgical procedures that require postoperative admission to Intensive Care include all cardiac surgery as well most thoracic and neurosurgery. Other admission reasons include post coronary angioplasty, multiple trauma, prolonged and complex surgery and post -operative monitoring of chronic health conditions heart and lung that require ventilator support.

Medical Record Services

Medical Record Services is a support service whose primary purpose is to contribute to the quality of patient care through the development and maintenance of a comprehensive centralized Medical Record system. Services and functions shall be developed and implemented in such a way that confidentiality, privacy, and data security considerations are respected at all stages of the healthcare information gathering and processing.

KPJ Kuching Medical Record Scope of Services:

The centralized Medical Record Services shall provide functional support to the healthcare facility with respect to health information services to include:
– Patient identification and numbering system
– monitoring of clinical record documentation.
– Diagnosis and procedure coding utilizing ICD10.
– Storage and retrieval system, including record tracking.
– Assistance in complying with legal and regulatory provisions and accrediting agency standards concerning health care Data.
– Data security, privacy, and confidentiality processes.

How to Request Your Medical Records:

The Medical Record Services facilitates the release of medical information to our patients.
Medical information is released in the form of medical reports, patient discharge summary, and selected investigation reports. The release of medical information is subject to official approval.

1. WHAT IS REQUIRED DURING THE REQUEST FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION?
1. Patient’s written consent for release of medical information to allow the hospital to release medical information for a stated purpose.

  • For patients below 21 years of age, consent of the parent is required.
  • For deceased patients, consent from the appointed representative of the estate is required.
  • Where applicable, the “Consent for release of medical information for deceased patient by all children / all siblings” must be filled up.
  • A copy of the death certificate and other supporting documents, e.g. marriage certificate and letters of administration, are required as proof of the representative’s relationship to the patient.

2. A copy of the patient’s NRIC / identification documents.
3. A payment for the information required.
4. Cheques are to be crossed and made payable to “Kuching Specialist Hospital Sdn Bhd”.

2. WHEN CAN THE REQUESTED MEDICAL INFORMATION BE READY?
As a general guide, the time frame for completion of medical reports is within 14 working days.
It may take longer if:

  • Patient has upcoming clinic appointments
  • Patient has been hospitalized
  • Multiple reports are required from several clinical departments
  • Doctor is away

3. HOW WILL I RECEIVE THE MEDICAL REPORT / COPIES OF MEDICAL RECORDS?
Patients can request for the medical report to be:

  •  Mailed to them – Mailing address to be provided at the point of application.
  •  For personal collection at Customer Service Counter / Medical Record Services, the patient’s contact number is to be provided at the point of application.
  • The patient will be contacted once the report is ready for collection.
  • NRIC of patient and payment receipt to be produced upon collection.
  • Authorisation letter is required if a third party is collecting on patient’s behalf.

Nursery is located on the same floor as the maternity wards. Newborn baby will be nurse by qualified staff. Mothers may request for rooming-in for complete breastfeeding as our hospital towards Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.

To make your stay in the hospital comfortable, you can expect to enjoy the following facilities along with the medical expertise we offer. There are 73 beds for you to choose from VIP 1 suite, VIP 2 suite, single room, double room, and three bedded and quad sharing rooms. Whichever room you select comes with three complimentary main-course meals and a set of free toiletries included in the rates. All food served are HALAL.

VIP
Each suite is designed with separate a reception room with sitting area, dining table, and kitchenette. We provide complimentary newspapers with this room package. The suite is furnished with the following:
Electrical bed, 32’’ TV, Wardrobe, Telephone, Sofa,
Kitchen facilities (Microwave / Refrigerator).

Single room
The single rooms have an attached bathroom and are furnished with an electrical bed, bedside table, wardrobe, cabinets, 32’ TV, telephone and visitor’s chair. We provide complimentary newspapers with this room package.

Two bedded room
The two-bedded rooms are ideal for those who prefer to not be alone when hospitalized. The room comes with 32’ TV, telephone and has an attached bathroom to be shared between the patients.

This room is ideal for those who prefer not to be alone when hospitalized. The room has an attached bathroom to be shared between the patients. These room comes furnished with the basic essentials of a bed, bedside table, cabinets and visitor’s chair.

Four bedded room
The 4-bedded rooms are located at level 3 for pediatric care and are furnished with the basic essentials of a bed, bedside table, cabinets, visitor’s chair and attached bathrooms shared between the four patients.

Baby Hatch

Kuching Specialist Hospital’s Baby Hatch was officiated by Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah in year 2017. It is the first and only Private Hospital Baby Hatch in Sarawak.

The main objective of the Baby Hatch is to save the lives of innocent newborns, whom otherwise would be in life-threatening situations when the mother decided not wanting the responsibility of caring for the baby. It gives an option to desperate mothers to leave their unwanted baby safely, instead of placing them in unsafe environment.

The identity of the perpetrator that place the baby in the Baby Hatch shall remain anonymous as CCTV system would not be installed. The baby will be given a health examination by Kuching Specialist Hospital’s Paediatrician and will be cared for, within three days before handing over to the Welfare Department.

Pharmacy services provide pharmaceutical services to patients who come to visit our clinics or admitted to the wards. Our pharmacy team comprises qualified and highly dedicated pharmacists and pharmacy assistants as well as in-house trained dispensers.

For your convenience, pharmacies are located at Ground Floor, next to the cafeteria, providing services for prescriptions, prescription refills, and a wide variety over the counter medications. Our consultants can send your prescriptions directly to our pharmacists saving time and the need to make another trip. Same-day prescription refills are also available.
